Cluster Service Day on Oct 8
The First UU Church of Indiana will host a UUs of Greater Pittsburgh Cluster Service Day on Saturday October 8 from 10am until noon. We’ll meet at the church first then divide into teams for 2 projects at 2 locations. We'll wrap up each project in time for lunch.
Our goals for the day:
1) Help with local service projects
2) Work alongside UU pals
3) Show that UUs are committed to our communities
4) Make Unitarian Universalism more visible in our communities
Project 1: We'll paint a small interview room. The agency will have everything ready so all we need to do is show up and paint! We'll try to apply 2 coats if there is time.
The CARE Center of Indiana County is a non-profit corporation dedication to improving the lives of abused, neglected and at-risk children and their families through multidisciplinary efforts that support the identification, prevention, and intervention of child abuse and neglect. They do this through the services including Family Preservation Services, Nurturing Parent Groups, and Supervised Visitation Services. They also provide forensic interviews for children ages 3-15 when there are allegations of physical or sexual abuse.
Project 2: We'll refresh an old and neglected flower bed in the front yard of a Personal Care Home, clean it out and replant with Fall mums. The agency will provide the mums, bags for weeds and shovels etc. All we need to do is show up and dig!
I & A Residential Services, Inc is a mental health residential provider in Indiana and Armstrong Counties. Their mission is to provide life skills training and safe, decent affordable housing to adults living with mental health issues in our communities. They offer 34 residential beds and psychiatric home visits to approximately 70 people at any given time. I & A strives to meet each consumer wherever they are in their continuum of recovery.
We’ll share some lunch and social time when the volunteering ends. Should be a beautiful fall foliage drive out to Indiana. This is a new endeavor we'd like to keep doing a few times a year - maybe Spring and Fall - and your participation will help make it a success. Hope that you can join us!
