2017 Annual Assembly Speaker: Rev. Renee Waun
After early years as a public shool and Montessori teacher Rev. Renee Waun received a Masters of Divinity from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. She served First United Methodist Church for almost 20 years while moonlighting as a Chaplain in the U.S. Army Reserve. By 1999 she was by her estimation a "full-blown heretic" and had published More Than Welcome: Learning to Embrace Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered Persons in the Church. She joined the staff at First Unitarian Church of Pittsburgh that July, then took on successive roles with the East Suburban, Ohio Valley, Ligonier Valley, and Morgantown Unitarian Universalist congregations. She is an avid traveler, and a trip to Uganda in 2003 became a larger commitment to a school project that continues to this day. She has just returned from a 3 week excursion to Morocco. In 2018 she plans to retire and relocate to Columbus Ohio where she will be closer to her youngest daughter.
